This is by far the strangest show I've ever been to. Some of you may remember Amel from Groove Theory back in 1995. They had a huge hit called "Tell Me". What you may not know is that she's had a somewhat successful solo career for the past 7 years. Her record company has a website with a fan forum that apparently she is waaaay into. She reads and posts and interacts with all of them to the point where she knows most of them by name and some of them by face. She spent a lot of time referencing and thanking all the website folks. She even went into the audience a couple of times to hug and take pictures with them. The only problem was sometimes it was in the middle of a song. Someone posted a Youtube video of one of her songs. Go to about 2:10 and you'll see that she can't really hit the same notes that she does on her albums.

Something that not a lot of people know is that in NY State, its perfectly legal for women to walk around topless anywhere a man can. Photographer Jordan Matter defends womens' rights to take the streets half-naked. For the past two years, he has been shooting 100 portraits of topless women in New York City's streets, restaurants and parks. Matter is also part of a project called "Topfree Equal Rights Association." TERA works to encourage women to walk around topless.
Check out his Flickr set. Its a kind of NSFW but it's art so I think you can defend it... if you live in NY that is.
Show at the Bowery Ballroom. I didn't get a photopass for my good camera but they let me use my little point & shoot so got off a couple good shots and a video for Youtube. SCHWEET!!! :-O
A Manhattan antiques dealer has filed a lawsuit against a small group of homeless people claiming that they are disrupting his business by using the sidewalk outside his high-end East Side store as a urinal, a spittoon and an occasional dressing room, according to the suit and the dealer’s lawyer.
(more here...)
